Education

In December 2014 I graduated cum laude from UC San Diego with a degree in Literature and Writing. I recently returned from a semester in Brighton, England.

Experience

Studying writing in college and working on out-of-class writing projects made me realize how much I love writing. But I know from my own experience in developing academic papers, working on creative projects, and writing application essays that it can be very challenging. As a writing tutor, I aim to make the process of writing a conversation. I believe that discussing the writing process with someone else is half the battle toward creating a finished piece. Whether it be brainstorming through ideas, creating flow charts and idea graphs to organize them, or making a concrete writing outline, I like to make the process accessible and personalized. This way, students can see their writing as their own work in progress, and can begin develop their own skill set in order to assess and structure future writing projects on their own. I have taken university classes on several types of writing including historical research papers, persuasive essays, literary papers, fiction, poetry, playwriting, narrative, and creative non-fiction. As a peer writing mentor at the UCSD Writing Center, I attended weekly training sessions on developing students' writing and addressing specific assignments. I was also trained to asses and discuss application essays and essays based on reading comprehension. In addition, I presented about mentoring writing on a student panel at the Sixth College Experiential Learning Conference last year. Besides my experience with undergraduates, my work as a camp director and private music teacher has allowed me to work with students ages three through adult, and I am happy to work on writing, reading, history, and English assignments with all age groups.
